Judy has spent most of her life investing in people. Her greatest desire is to see people become all they were created to be. As Founder, Executive Director and Clinical Supervisor of The Growing Place – Center for Helping People (TGP), and as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), she leads and guides Marriage and Family Therapy Interns (MFTI), Trainees (MFTT), Certified Life Coaches, Para-professional Counselors and Mentors.
Becoming a therapist and creating a safe place which provides professional care for people who are stuck or wounded began after a family tragedy. In August of 1988 her youngest son Jason, at age 17, was killed in an accident here in Chico, which left her devastated and lost. Life had no meaning. It was in response to her husband Bert’s question, “What have you always wanted to do?” that she felt a small glimmer of hope. She had always wanted to go to college.
Judy then began the journey through years of schooling, internship hours, and licensing exams. As a result, she has completed a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, graduating in 1998 with honors in 1999 from CSU Chico and is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Along with a robust private practice, she oversees all of the activities of TGP. It is her responsibility and joy to select and lead the most caring and equipped group of professional people who bring insight, wisdom and hope for the heartaches, concerns and problems of others.
